Pre-marital sex ‘more accepted’
Summary
British people are increasingly tolerant of sex before marriage. 70% of 3000 people had no objections to pre-marital sex. But when it was tested in 1984 52% was against it. Another thing which has changed is the role within a relationship, now it’s not only the woman who has to do all the housework men do it as well. People’s attitudes towards gender roles have changed, but their behaviour lags behind. This is important because a gap between a person’s views about gender roles and what actually happens in their own home seems to lead to greater stress, for women at least. A similar story of apparent double standards is when it comes towards the environment. But the fact that there is a gap between what people say and what they do is not hypocrisy because a lot of people actually get conflicted on what they should do. What we need to do is find out what it is that makes people stop taking the final step, and then encourage them to take it.
My opinion
Par 1 (“British people are…a survey suggest”) I do not think there is anything wrong with pre-martial sex I think it is something that people should decide for themselves if they do it or not. The time when you got married first and had sex then has passed. There is nothing wrong with it I think and as it shows 70% agrees with me.
Par 16 (“this is important…women at least”) Many people say they don’t think it matters who does all the housework but if you look at the day to day life of many people, you will say that it’s the women who does all the work. I understand why it can be stressing for a woman to hear everybody talk about gender roles and that they have changed. While actually nothing changed and women still have to do everything.
Par 23 (“what we need…to take it”) I think this is a very good idea, if we would be able to find out why people usually don’t take the final step it would be much easier to convince them to take it.

Right now I live in a part of the netherlands where many people strongly believe in God. It's called the Biblebelt. Barneveld, The nearest city from Voorthuizen is core of this biblebelt. Here people still believe pre-marital sex is bad, first love, then get married and then sex. People don't talk much about this topic, it's just the way it is. But I think these thoughts need to change, it's not very modern anymore and it's (just like you said) something everyone has to descide for themselves.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenMen should also do household! haha, no really, it's also a thing of the past. Women anticipated and the men can't stay behind.
I am not agree with having sex before marrige, but I am also not against it. if someone does not want to do it before marrige then it does not mean that he/she is an old fashioned person. I think that men and women should do everything together at home and outside home.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI agree with you about the double standards. It's not clear to me what you mean by the final step? can you explain?
BeantwoordenVerwijderenGood blogs, though
Havind sex before marrige depends more on your culturele background than having your own opinion. As a muslim I grow up with the knowledge that you have sex after marrige. I never thought about having sex before marrige. I don't think it is old fashion, instead I believe we are faithfull to our culture and traditions. I'm also not against sex before marrige, everybody should do whatever they like. But you have to respect people that act or think differently.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenPeople have to descide for themselves if they want to have sex before marriage. I can understand if you believe strongly in God and your environment is also strict about sort things that there is a taboo a bout things such as sex before getting married.. but I think it is a more cultural thing..
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI must say British teens are "lucky" in this issue. Pre-Marital Sex is still a big issue in my country. As a 90% Catholic indoctrinated country, Philippines is very strict when it comes to having sex before marriage. That is why, although it is happening, many people are not keen on accepting the idea that it is happening among teenagers. Also, even though many become teenage mothers because of this (who many die out of birth complications), the Catholic Church is strong against the use of contraceptives. Also, reproductive health education is not widely done in schools because of the objection of the Church.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenPersonally, I am not against Pre-Marital Sex. However, great responsibility comes along with it. I think that teenagers should be given reproductive health education. In these way, they will able able to know the negative effects of having sex before marriage or having an irresponsible sex. The use of contraceptives should also be promoted among them.
When I took a look at this article I wasn't shocked. I was like oow,, is that it. Because just like time has changed, people also changed. This has nothing to with culture or tradition but this has to with the changing envorinments where people are in. If you want to have sex before your marriage, go ahead, no one will stop you. But I wouldn't want to have sex before my marriage. This is because of my religion. I'mnot allowed to have sex before marriage, so why should I disobey the rules. Everyone should decide for themselves what good for them is and what not.
